Wrong province! I have a feeling SignalHillHiker has been here, but it's off the beaten track.

Yeah, gotta be Newfoundland, but I have no idea which "point" that would be.

^ That's Cape St Francis, north of St. John's. I've been there.

I recognize the tall building in the picture from when I was on the bus a few days ago. It's in Edmonton between 122 and 124 Streets and I think somewhere between Jasper Avenue and 104 Avenue. If I look at google maps I could probably find the spot but that would be cheating.

Context establishing shot at beginning of crappy movie called "My Awkward Sexual Adventure" about a guy in Winnipeg.

Thing is, I don't think this is actually Winnipeg. Or is it? If so, where is it? If not, where is it?

Looks like it could be this area. Not too sure.

Doesn't really look like it to me. I don't recall seeing many semi-detached houses in Winnipeg. Never as many as close to each other as in this pic, in any case.

99% sure that’s Toronto. Can’t spot enough distinctive features to peg the exact area but the 3 storey semis with occasional SFH are telling.

I should have taken a screenshot from a second later.

Yeah, there's no way that's Winnipeg. That's an egregious fail, at least from a geographical-urbanist perspective. I'm thinking that aerial shots like this meant to evoke urban residential life in North America are difficult in Winnipeg due to its impressive urban forest, i.e. the trees block the view. Though the filmmakers (apparently Winnipeggers) were undoubtedly well aware that the city's housing stock isn't all that inspiring, so they must have said fug it, it's a quick shot, use the Toronto scenery here, nobody's going to notice or care.

How little did they know that ten years later they would rue the day they made that decision...

To their credit they really cropped that shot to make it hard to tell where it is exactly. I want to say west end but could also be a few areas in the east end with longer blocks. I may spend some time tomorrow trying to nail it down.

My immediate reaction was that that looks like the classic view from the Tower Automotive. Just pan to the left and zoom in:

Edit: here's a better view head-on. And now on second thought, it doesn't look quite right. There's more detached houses and everything looks a bit more spaced out in that "Winnipeg" shot - it's most likely somewhere a bit further out. Maybe around High Park, Riverdale, or St. Clair where you get a bit more of that mix of Edwardian 3-storey semi & 2-storey detached.

^that was my first thought as well. But agreed it’s a bit further out. But not so far that the housing typology goes into more SFHs and bungalows. WWI era stuff.

Looks pretty similar to my Aunt's neighbourhood around Bloor/Dufferin.
