Cayuga, ON

Cayuga is a community on the Grand River in Ontario, about 45 minutes south of Hamilton and about 15 minutes north of Lake Erie.

Cayuga was the seat of Haldimand County, until Haldimand County and neighboring Norfolk County to the west were merged to form the Regional Municipality of Haldimand-Norfolk in 1974. The nearby town of Simcoe became the regional seat at that time. In 2001, The regional municipality was dissolved, and the former Haldimand County became a single-tier municipality, similar to an independent city, called "Haldimand". The name was immediately changed to "Haldimand County", making Cayuga the administrative center of the City of Haldimand County.
