The 6th borough???--JERSEY CITY-NJ--*

Originally I was planning to post a Newark thread but I had more pics to upload so I'm pushing it back. Fortunately, I had more Jersey City pics! For those who would have rather seen Newark, I hope this holds you over till I post em up.

Question:
Just to throw it out there, I'm curious to know what your opinion is regarding Jersey City being the 6th borough. I have heard people say Miami, Philadelphia, Westchester County, Nassau County and CT. Also, for those of you that want to say, "NYC is only 5 boroughs, there is no 6th" then treat this hypothetically. I have the feeling that this discussion can get heated, so lets be accepting of all opinions.

Enjoy

Borough count aside, this was absolutely amazing. Thanks for sharing.

Very comprehensive set. Thanks for showing the good and the bad.

Personally, I never subscribed to that "6th borough" theories. But I have always thought that all of Hudson County should have merged into a single city. It's one continuous urban area with a population of over 600k and a density higher than Boston and Philadelphia. Hudson county could be a very viable city. Maybe even enough to break out of New York's shadow? Ehh maybe not.

Real cities (like this one) have grit. Without grit, there is no character. Looks like a great urban area on the rebound. Certainly more cheerful looking then when I visited during the late 1980s.

Flawless thread. Jersey City don't need to be no 6th stinkin' borough...it can stand on its own!

And this:

Coonery at its finest.

Incredible thread. In an increasingly suburban nation, JC is the real deal.

--

I'd go so far as to call Jersey City (or really all of Hudson County) the real 5th Borough. Staten Island, although a decent place, is much less a part of the city than Hudson Co.

--

Keep up the high-quality Jersey tours!!

Great, great photos!

As far as the 6th borough business, I cringe whenever I hear it. New York is a city that contains it’s five boroughs. If people want to be part of NY that bad, they should just move there. The only thing more annoying than the 6th Borough nonsense is the Hollywood of the ___________” nonsense.

Thank you everyone for the comments. I might have some more JC to post up a little later.

Also, I must clarify that I'm not trying to say Jersey City is the 6th borough, or even that there is one at all. This is completely hypothetical and I was only throwing it out there for fun.

No I think your vision is great, but is somewhat unrealistic. Then again in the 1800's, Hudson City and Bergen City did merge with JC so maybe in the future. Personally, and this may sound dumb, I try to look at Hoboken as just another neighborhood of JC. I think its cause I want to envision JC larger than it is. I think if people were to look at Hudson County in the same light, then the area can garner more attention.

I'm not going to lie, I was kind of sneaking this one in. I liked how the buildings came up in the back....
as for the girl...she may come up in another thread.

I'm glad you enjoyed the photos, but there is no need to cringe towards the question its hypothetical.

Killer thread! Well, you know what some people say, Staten Island should probably be exchanged for JC/HC. If you haven't read or heard that before.

Killer thread! I really need to explore that side of the Hudson. Unfortunately, there's a huge psychological barrier crossing state lines.

awesome work! It's great to see JC from street level as opposed to just across the Hudson.
