Vienna is the second grandest city in Europe, IMO. Even grander than Rome or London. It has the haunting feel of raw imperial power. Only Paris tops Vienna, really.

Now granted, outside the core, Vienna is a banal landscape of grim housing projects, not that much different than Prague or Berlin. And the city lacks the cosmopolitanism and edge of the bigger, more important European cities. But the core is absolutely magnificent.
