Forever New Orleans pt. 2... the Quarter, with drink in hand!

This is course just the touristy stuff... but you can never get enough, so have a look!!

Now the Ursuline Convent... believed to be the oldest building West (South??) of the Mississippi River. It's also the most prominent example of classic French architecture from the city's founding.

This is a city model of New Orleans in 1919... built in the 50s. Cool stuff.

And of course... Le Centre du Vieux Carré... Jackson Square

CHEATERS!! You betta put dem Segways away and get on ya good foots fo sho!

I asked the ladies that were selling stuff in the courtyard.. they said that this is an "Antebellum apartement complex". I wish I could've looked inside!!

Ok... gotta stop and refuel. Almost done with Margarita #2!!

Yeah... so we're protected from the glass. But who's gonna protect us from the other drunks??

Lafitte's Blacksmith shop... one of the oldest continuously operating bars in the US.

May have to come back tonight and "scratch it"

more to come. Thanks for viewing!

Just stay off the upriver half of Bourbon St. and you'll be fine.

Nice pics of one of my 4 favorite American cities. And I don't consider the Quarter only for tourists. Plenty of condos and good eating for anybody there too.

I'll bet the ER nearby isn't your "typical" inner city ER.

Love New Orleans, I am wishing I had some prawns and beans and rice, or a po boy from The Praline Connection...

If the N.O. cleaned up, and kept its character at the same time, it would be the greatest place in the US.

(why? because you CAN DRINK ON THE STREET OUT OF A PLASTIC CUP!!!)

I think you can do the same in Savannah. And from my experience in shit-hole Georgia towns like Macon, a lot of them have this thing called "first Friday" where their "downtown" streets turn into little Bourbon Streets the first Friday of every month.

Not the same as New Orleans, but not a completely unheard of practice.

__________

Good pics, by the way. Our two French Quarter threads should meet the SSP French Quarter quota for 2009.

Great pictures. That's nice that you have some pictures of the convent. I've heard some good things about it. Too bad you don't have pictures of the cathedral, but oh well. You covered more than I did when I was down there so I shouldn't criticize.

What more can be said about the French Quarter that hasn't already? One of America's greatest treasures
