So cool. Great set. I especially love the Palm Springs mid century modern homes.

Great set nice to see some of the Portland nabes. I think you could do a great thread with San Diego/Tijuana if you ever make it down this way. I'm sure you have heard about the unique food scene in TJ so why not bring the lady and come down.

Nice pictures - I like that you document food/coffee places that you've been along the way.

I like LA shots 7,8, and 10. 10 especially.

I've been meaning to try Saint Frank, but haven't quite made it over there just yet.

Thanks! That reminds me, I never posted my pictures from Szczecin...one of these days. And, yes, LA has one of the better coffee (and food) scenes out there. I don't think many people realize just how good the food/drink/coffee/dining scene in LA has gotten.

You've said that in at least three, distinct threads!

I actually visited San Diego sometime in early July (or was it late June?). No camera pics, but I loved the new Ballast Point Tap Room!

Palm Springs has what is arguably the single largest and best-preserved collection of early modernist and mid-century SFH architecture. Maybe the wealthy, hilly region of LA, stretching from roughly Brentwood to Hollywood to Silverlake, would have once compared, but there has been a huge increase in demolitions since the late 90s.

Oh, yes. I remember those from your blog. BTW what happened? I've seen all your threads and I was a reader of your photo-blog for years too.

But speaking of Szczecin... It's architecture doesn't quite resemble Poland as it was being built by germans. I would rather recommend you Poznan. Wroclaw (then Breslau) is also post-german but it's a great city with many Polish post-war architecture. It has one of the best (along with great history-filled Krakow) main markets. There is also city of Lodz (it's name actually has three Polish letters). It's neglected but there are houndreds or thousands of great and beautifully ornamented kamienica's, willa's/villa's, post-industrial imposing factories and former textile industry buildings. Plus lots of street art-ish murals and so on. It has bad opinion but it's a potential-filled city and is often referred as Polish Paris or Polish New York. Of course take it with a grain of salt as it's not that big or great..

If you're in Trojmiasto area (Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia) some day don't hesitate to visit not only Gdansk or Sopot but also Gdynia. We do have many modernist architecture from 20's and 30's as whole city and port were pretty much built in those decades. There are plenty of beautiful, black and white, round or squared, modern staircases with souls (space between stairs in staircases).

I really like that wedge building. I hope nothing ever happens to it.

It is one of those things modern infill can never replicate. The tiny footprint would never be allowed by bureaucrats, never be economical for developers, and architecturally nothing these days can have the same ornamentation or soft edges.

And yet it contributes so much to the vibe and identity of that streetscape, it helps make that area interesting and desirable.

When I saw the title, I was hoping Vancouver would have been in there as well. KOTH in Vancouver would have been legendary.

Anyway, fantastic tour and pics. Oslo, huh? When will we see some images from there?
