City Hopping Pt 3: New York / Boston

Took a personal trip in July to visit friends and sightsee in 4 different US cities. Started in Chicago, then went to Philadelphia, New York, and Boston. Was not out to get really quality/artistic shots, just to photo when I had an opportunity each city. Was also out to enjoy each city’s gay scene (no photos).

My third stop was in New York. Pretty much enough said. I spent the most amount of time there and clearly did not take many pictures. But that’s because it’s New York and there is never any downtime!

My fourth and final stop was Boston. Boston is forever one of my favorite cities. I don’t think there is a cleaner city. Nor one (maybe DC) that is as uniformly “wealthy” appearing throughout much of its city limits. Had a chance to see some of the city outside of the core and had amazing views from the plane when leaving, however, no pics

Boston’s gay scene is centered in South End, though it’s a small scene (and one of the larger clubs is near Fenway). The city is very “mixed” instead (not that other large cities aren’t), just not a large collection of bars/clubs/options. Boston shopping never ceases to impress. Back Bay is simply gorgeous!! Tons of new construction all over the place, which was kind of a focus of my pictures. This is probably the most “white collar” city in America. It really shows. Also, it can look very European. Downside: nightlife is pretty dead, the gay scene is incredibly and surprisingly drag queen-centric. Rambling, but definitely a great, world-class city.

Nice jobs on these threads! You really did a nice job of capturing the vibrancy of these cities. Looks like you hit up Urban America at its finest. Of course the US has many great cities.

But IMO, NYC, CHI, SF, PHILLY and BOS are the standout "big 5" urban American cities. They exude the organic city feel with active mixed use downtowns and dense, urban residential neighborhoods.
