Nice photos and great hikes. Its strange hearing someone say stinging nettles. Its a common weed here along with thistles and just refer to them as nettles. Get stung a lot doing the garden.

Thanks guys!

It takes about four hours, I suppose, for all of us to fill our buckets. You could fill one bucket in 15-20 minutes if you find a good spot.

A few pictures from a walk around town this afternoon. I love pictures angled upward toward high skylines but haven't been able to do that since my last trip to Boston, so... **** it. Tried a poor man's version here.

Yesterday's hike from Biscayan Cove to Pouch Cove. I think the former town there was called Biscayan Cove and the actual cove was called Biscan Cove - it's the only explanation that fits, unless both spellings are interchangeable.

A few from today, of the fall colours really setting in north of the city.

And back in town for the sunset:

You don't have many deciduous trees to get foliage, it appears.

Yes, that's correct.

There are lots in and around most communities, especially the oldest ones. And there are certain valleys where almost all of the trees are deciduous. But, for most part, they're either not present at all or only as a minority of the visible trees.

This is about as leafy as it naturally gets here, without much human intervention over the centuries:

Or, say, like this, also from today:

That's as good as it gets.

A few more from yesterday evening.

View from Signal Hill. The federal government of Canada recently indicated it will support our campaign to get the hill recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which would be the fifth in Newfoundland and Labrador and the first within the capital city.

Signal Hill was the site of a few things of importance - the first transatlantic wireless communication, the last North American battle of the Seven Year's War, etc.

The Battery Residence of Memorial University of Newfoundland being refurbished.

ALT Hotel under construction.

MIX Apartments and Star of the Sea (condos) under construction.

Wow, it looks like your foliage is barely ahead of us down here in Delaware. We have trees with tinges of color, but none that are individually at peak, like you have sprinkled around in random spots.

We have another 2-3 months to go before our first snow. Although, we once got snow 5 years ago tomorrow. That was our first October snow in over 80 years, I think. We got a November snow about 10 years ago that was our first November snow in 30 years, at the time.

I think it just happens faster here is all. A couple of weeks ago, the trees were mostly green, with some colourful.

And today, 99.9% are entirely colourful. There's a small number of ones that are still green, and a small number of one bare with no leaves at all, but most are entirely yellow or red, with missing patches and bare branches.

It happened very fast.

We have strong winters, from January to March. And strong summers, from July to September. But the other seasons kind of just flash. They're either one or the other, extremely, with only a couple of weeks of actual weather you'd consider spring or fall.

Snowstorms in April or November, depending on the year. Summer heat in May or November, depending on the year.

The past days have been wonderfully mild but, as usual, the catch is that any warmth at all this time of year comes with heavy fog. The city was unusually dead last night, but we went out anyway, made our own fun lol.

What's Blue Star? Is that Newfoundland's local beer?

We are hitting peak color down here right now.

It's one of the rebranded macro beers from either Labbatt or Molson. I'm sure the recipes are the same as anywhere else, and probably the same as each other, but they market them under older names here to retain market share. They're Blue Star, Blackhorse, India, Jockey Club, and Dominion. They're nothing special. You've definitely already had almost identical beer.

Our laws only allow locally-brewed beer to be sold at gas stations, corner stores, etc. Imports can only be sold at larger groceries and the like. So the two companies keep small breweries here, and the illusion of selection so you don't go into a gas station and see only one type.

We drank it on Thursday because only Labbatt beer are 3 for $5 at that particular bar.

We're past peak color now. Any leaves still green are dry and dropping just like colorful ones do. The colored ones are turning brown quickly, and varying amounts of almost every tree are bare.
