Paul Kelly : Cold As Canada

Video Link

Paul Kelly is an Australian singer/songwriter, but the title and lyrics of the song surely qualify it for this thread.

The British have taken a liking to another of our folk bands. Named after one of the cutest-named streets in the Georgestown neighbourhood of St. John's.

SO EXCITED! Today Hey Rosetta! released a preview of their next album.

AND you can hear the first single here (it's sssooo good!):

PREMIERE: HEY ROSETTA! UNVEIL GLEAMING SINGLE, 'KINTSUKUROI'

Quote:
Life is a fragile object, but it's one whose cracks are meant for mending. With a plaster concoction of experience and hard lessons, your life's broken pieces are reassembled and reinforced. This metaphor flows through the lustrous crevasses of Hey Rosetta!'s newest single, "Kintsukuroi", which is named after the Japanese art form of fixing broken pottery with far more tenacious adhesives like gold, platinum and silver.

The perfect song for a foggy after-work beer in the City of Legends, by the band after which I'm named.

God, I love her. I've only ever seen them in concert once - ONCE... yet they're one of my favourites.

I should clarify why I'm rooting for RocketRocketShip as they objectively don't have the best video.

They had THE hit of the summer in St. John's. They hot. And I love them.

I think this one even made it to the mainland this summer. One of my friends in Winnipeg, in any event, heard of it.

Having a drink tonight, b'y, and listening to the late Joan Morrissey. I still can't believe she killed herself. She was a legend here.

All of life is this longing... to lay your body down

One hand holding the devils, one hand holding the dove
Fools will bet on their horses...
Wise men learn to love...

One path grows in the distance, one path, now overgrown...
It can seem too rough for the walking, but you never walk alone...

Endless boats all arriving, on an ever-widening shore...
There is no door to the kingdom...
The kingdom is the door...

(Moral of the story: happiness is not a state of being, it's a way of life).

Come over the hill, my bonnie Irish lass...
Come over the hill, to your darling....
You pick the rose, love...
And I'll make the vow...
And I'll be your true love forever...

Red is the rose that in the yonder garden grows
Fair is the lily of the valley
Clear is the water that flows from the Boyne
And my love is fairer than any...

That's it for me...
I couldn't tell you which was worse: the regret or the hurt...
Which one done me in?

You treat me like a crime, a place to do your time
The rations you've been eatin'

No more whiskey, no more women, no more fightin', no more livin'
That's it for me...

You be nice. She sings outside the Merrymeeting Road Sobeys every other day. Just because she's still homeless or whatever doesn't mean she's not a fucking talent. I love this girl.
