2 Weeks of NYC: Hamilton Heights, Jackson Heights, Williamsburg y mas

Due to recent employment... issues, I've had tons of time to go out and take pictures!

I'll start us off with some street photography in Manhattan's Chinatown.

Now for some Hasidic Williamsburg. The main residents of southern Williamsburg are Satmar Hasidim. Many of their tenements include balconies for setting up Sukkot during the Sukkos holiday, in order to eat outside, as required in the Talmud.

Jackson Heights(and some Elmhurst) is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country, with large South American and South Asian populations. It is famous for it's large garden style apartment buildings.

Next up is Hamilton Heights in West Harlem. This neighborhood is notable for some elegant housing and historic district.

Washington Heights, situated just north of Hamilton Heights is home to the highest point in Manhattan, as well as the site for the Battle of Fort Washington.

Sunset Park is a neighborhood in central Brooklyn, made famous for the park of the same name. It offers some of the best views of Manhattan from anywhere in the city. It is also home to Brooklyn's Chinatown.

Here's everything else that didn't fit into one of those categories.

Fantastic! I think you've included some places that people outside the city might not be too familiar with, particularly Sunset Park - which is great. Hamilton Heights has some of the best row house architecture in the city, IMO.

Where's the pizza from?

Spectacular. This city rewards exploring like no other.

Other New York forumers: the gauntlet is down...

You're a skilled man, Sabo. Good for us NYers to have you.

You're so near my families building in WB in one of your shots, just 3 blocks away. Thanks for the pictures.

What 'other' NY forumers? There are none...none with any real consistency, anyways. Just a bunch of transient tourists doing threads of the "usual" Manhattan areas.

Great job giving us a view of some ny neighborhoods we don't see too often. I lived in Hamilton Heights for a short time, so seeing those shots is my much appreciated. I liked it there... beautiful buildings... pretty quiet... cheap by comparison.

For any history buffs out there: This is Hamilton Grange - Alexander Hamilton's home. It was recently moved to St. Nicholas Park and fully restored.

Great set sobatai. You're proving yourself to be the best photographer on SSP.

Wes Anderson fans will recognize the house in the upper right as the home to the title family in the movie The Royal Tennenbaums-- Anderson's ode to New York City.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I appreciate them!

Kevin from Brooklyn: The pizza is from Roberta's in Bushwick. The pizza is pretty good, but if you get the chance try their pork shoulder, do it! It is to die for.... mmm ..... delicious pork...

Wow, nice catch on the two houses pico44 and pj3000.

This one was probably harder to catch, but this is the Morris-Jumel Mansion in Washington heights. It was used as the headquarters for George Washington and the British during the American War of Independence. It's the oldest house in Manhattan.

Here's another shot showing the front.

Wow, this is one of the finest new york threads I've seen. Many of these places I've been before yet you captured them in a different way. And you're not afraid to take pictures of people, which I always was.
