Sussex Court House is an unincorporated community, and the seat of Sussex County, south of Richmond and Petersburg. The population is around 250.

Sussex County is rural, with logging and cotton being two of the main industries. The community of Sussex Court House is little more than the courthouse complex at an intersection, with a small amount of houses within short walking distance.
