Tower Avenue is the main drag through downtown Superior. I am a fan of placenames, and like when a town chooses something unusual for thier main street, something other than Main Street or Front Street or whatever. I like Tower Ave as a primary street name.

The downtown looks gritty, but well kept at the same time. Then you get sad boarded up storefronts(/businesses) and sketchy areas. It's too bad, the area looks like it has so much potential. Then again a lot of Rustbelt/Breadbasket/Midwestern places do.
Excellent photothread, Thundertubs!! I'm not sure if there's another Superior thread or not on SSP. I've seen plenty of Duluth, so it's nice to see something different from across the river or state line. The town is what I suspected it to be, but none the less, an interesting place. Thanks for sharing!!

Didn't you do a thread on Dover once? Dover might have the strangest main street name of any place in the country: Loockerman Street. Although, Division Street also is kind of like a main street; it might be the historic primary route east and west in the town, but it didn't evolve into the business district (Division Street is still fairly unique, though).

Superior is one of the most depressing towns I have ever been in. For some reason it has the only gay bars in the Duluth/Superior area though..so I have been there several times
I've been there twice for the Dragonboat races, possibly again this year although I'm not sure yet.
When we make it out of the dragonboat beer garden, the team I go with (out of Thunder Bay) typically ventures downtown after racing to hit up the bars. Last year we started at this place that gives you a rubber aligator full of booze to pour into a gigantic mug of green coloured mix. Then we went to some bar that has a stripper pole and a cage but it wasn't the night they get used, so some of our girls got into it! Finally we ended up at what I think is called Stargate, which is pretty fun because by then we were hammered. Not sure if I'd enjoy it as much sober. Then back to the Driftwood Inn team house for more shennanigans.
The short is that Superior is pretty fun whenever I go there.

Superior and Duluth are known as the Twin Ports. Superior gets access to Duluth via The Bong Bridge and The Blatnik Bridge. The other major cross street to Tower avenue is Belknap since you like different names that one is a little different I would say. I have spent many nights in Superior especially when I was younger since the drinking age is lower than that in Duluth and everyone spills over the bridge to continue partying there. The Cove was the big bar/club back then. Also, liquor stores are open on Sunday in Superior. Nice to see a shot of The Androy Hotel in there. LOL. 25 bucks a night can't beat that.

They won't be able to spill over tonight. The Bong Bridge is closed until 4:20 because of smoke.
I saw that gay bar while cruising Superior in Streetview. I was surprised. It's the last place I would have expected to find one.
Neat tour, last time I went to Duluth we didn't go to Superior.
This is a totally awesome tour... back in the days of US & Canada photo forum this would've generated a ton of replies... I love the industrial monoliths, the gritty streetscapes and the gloomy skies... you really are awesome with these extreme northern small cities, 'Tubs!
What a treat! Thank you! Even a picture of the tallest building in Superior, the Androy Hotel, which I used to stay in while visiting that deliciously blue-collar city, and doing some pub crawling on Main Street.
If Duluth has been called the "poor-man's San Francisco", I'll take "Oakland" anyday!
