That's one of my local neighbourhood pizza joints. It's a classic cash-only, family-run kinda place that hasn't changed in 30 years and is perfect when you get a craving for that cheap, greasy, old school North American pizza.

There's certainly much better pizza in the neighbourhood though.

However, Buffalo has the quickest, best and most extensive access to ski country and topography of any Great Lakes city. Appalachia is only a half hour away.

i'm sure that it's quite tasty, but that thing bears pretty much no resemblance to the pizza of my childhood that is so near and dear to my heart.

all of those friday night family pizza night dinners at our local neighborhood pizzeria (the royal chessman, sadly long gone) in suburban chicago.

cracker thin crust, retardedly over-fennelled sausage, tangy/sweet sauce, with just the right amount of golden brown cheese. my pizza heaven.

Toronto is unlike the other GL cities, by virtue of the zillions of skyscrapers throughout the metro region (much more like a giant Asian city in this regards, or for that matter, like Vancouver).
I commented on Jacksonville before my last quote

The square Detroit-style pizza is the new hipster craze here in Brooklyn. They are copying a version popularized by Buddy's:

^ yeah, detroit style pizza is good too.

it's more similar to chicago deep dish than the chicago thin crust of my youth, but it's still qualifies as old school pizza because it's old school pizza.

detroit is in the old school pizza club.

(though we will have to deduct some pizza points for foisting little caesars upon the rest of the nation).

is there anything about detroit that hipsters won't gravitate towards?

now, if only more of them would get the hell out of brooklyn and go live in detroit, then world would be a better place.

or grandma pizza. i've made my own pretty tasty version, before. obvy you have to have time and patience to do the crust right.

that kind of pizza really starts blurring lines before people start raising fingers.

There is a slight, but important, difference. Detroit style pizzas are baked inside an iron (?) pan, so that the edge of the crust gets a certain crispy texture at the very edge. Sicilian is similarly square but doesn't have the same crust texture. And I think they are just baked on a flat sheet like regular pizzas.

good point...the "scrispy" corners on detroit style are integral.

is st. louis style pizza "party cut" into squares like chicago style thin crust?

in chicago the little small triangles left over from the party cut are referred to as "corners" (even though the pizza is clearly round) and are highly sought after for their high edge crust ratio.

marriages and friendships have ended over the improper divying of the four corner pieces. they are special.

It's happening, bro. Go into any of the hipster restaurants popping up in Detroit now and you'll easily find someone with a NYS ID hiding in their wallet.

yes, st. louis style is basically bizarro chicago thin crust (with provel and a bit spicier and sweeter). detroit style i love corners. st. louis style i go for the viscera.

Seems to function as the American equivalent of Okotoks... but what's so bad about it? Urban renewal was particularly awful there from what I've heard, and the current skyline is pretty impressive. I'm passing there regularly, but I can't say I ever bothered to stop and explore. However the skyline looks nice when passing

Based on those pics, Milwaukee seems really nicer than Chicago.

there's nothing bad about about jacksonville. it's all good.

jacksonville has the 3rd most impressive skyline on the continent.

it's even better than toronto's skyline.

True. In North America, only Youngstown and Saskatoon top the glories of the Jacksonville skyline.
