since we're talking about shadows...
1. yerba buena gardens is not owned or controlled by the rec+park department, so the shadow ordinance doesn't apply.
2. shadows in SF *do* get cast in a slightly southerly direction in the early morning and late evening of the summer, so projects on the "north" side of parks do have issues, even considering that the ordinance excludes the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset.
3. the SOMA street grid is rotated almost 45 degrees, so this project technically does cast shadows on the open space for the center for the arts, but not any part of the traditional outdoor open space of YBG. again, per #1, not a planning code issues. they are disclosed in the EIR and have to be considered as an environmental impact, but they can be approved even if deemed significant.
4. the NIMBYs who opposed this project in the four seasons are the most transparent and despicable hypocrites in the real estate community. some of them are active real estate agents and advise developers who build similar projects to this all around the city... unless it happens to be near the building they live in.
