As for the airliners gracing our airport, its impressive, but things were actually cooler back in the day. It used to be that besides cargo, we'd also get passenger flights going between Europe and Asia. Anchorage residents were often allowed to hop on during the airline's layover and thus fly directly to Tokyo, Paris, London, etc. Following the opening of Soviet airspace in 1991 and better aviation technology, passenger jets now fly over our heads without stopping. The cargo side of the equation however has stuck around.
and yea, about that Aaron glowrock guy.. I should've known, I should've known
I thoroughly enjoyed getting to learn about Anchorage from your photos. It's a place I had never thought much about. I was surprised at the size of the place.
Sketching, i'm particularly glad to hear your thoughts. As a lifelong resident of the city, I always like exposing our tucked away frigid village to the rest of the world.
Nice pictures. When do you typically stop getting snow up there? We are sometimes done by the end of February, although snowstorms are not uncommon in March. We almost never see snow in April, even as flurries.
^sorry for the delay. We don't reach melting season until late March. Usually its at the beginning of May that around 90% of all snow and ice is gone. Lately however we have gotten some nasty snow storms in April.
