You have a great view! If I move back to Denver I would want a place with a view, maybe one of those condo towers overlooking Cheesman Park and the skyline/mountains. Where was this??

Good and inexpensive art at the art expo, those students don't realize their talent yet! I live two blocks from Benny's and have to watch out that I am not there too often or I will resemble a walking burrito.

I will post more for you to reminise but wow, I could live in London for a few years. I might miss the blue skies and would have to return.

It is just the right amount of city. It is very livable and most of the pics are outside the downtown area. Worth a visit here and within 30 minutes you can drive into the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains. I will always love NYC but as I age, this pace of life becomes easier on many aspects. However, I am greatly looking forward to more of your NYC tours!

Much agree, we are fortunate. Now that you know the proximity of my condo, no stalking the alleys!

A friend of mine lives just east of the park and has spectacular views, I will shoot some pics there soon. He is going to sell it, and make a fortune.

Where was this??
This was at the Waterworks Car Wash off of Broadway.

J/K... another great thread by denveraztec!
It looks better in person, but glad they didn't follow the renderings exactly because it was covered with at least 30 statues. It would have resemble Tammy Faye Baker - just trying too hard to look pretty.

Great pictures! Denver is very diverse in summertime, and I appreciate your eclectic taste in photographing beer, girls' behinds, classic cars and stately old mansions. Are most of these older homes in the Governor's Park area? And, is THIS monster a single residence?

Hey Pausgree, Denver is diverse and I need to get shots of some of the more cultural events like Juneteen, MLK Marade (march/parade - which I believe is the largest in the country), Cinco de Mayo, Saint Patrick's Day Parade, the Pan Asian Dragon Boat races, etc.

Governor's Park is where many of these are just because they were on my walking routes when I am home. However, we have mansions in all of our 38 established historic districts/neighborhoods. We are not know for our spectacular skyscrapers, which most are somewhat bland and from the 80's. We are know for the low level structures and homes and the large amount of them. The monster in the picture below is a single family residence in the Denver Country Club neighborhood, it boarders Governor's Park, Congress Park and Capitol Hill. It is 3 miles southeast of downtown. My favorite castles are in Capitol Hill, Bonnie Brae and Belcaro neighborhoods.

Denver socialites really tried to outdo one another in the late 1800s and earl 1900s with everything from their homes to their schools and churches, and often along cultural lines. Mineral production was the draw for the wealthy around the world, and many breweries wanted Rocky Mountain spring water for their beer. We are still the largest beer producing state in the country. Many of those families are still here and prospering. Oprah is renting one of these castles for the Democratic National Convention from a brewery family for $50,000 for four days. I will post more as we take great pride in them and thank God many of them are protected by our historical and lankmark societies. I stumble across new old mansions and homes all the time. Many are on private drives but the last picture below is one I just found last week, after being here my whole life. It is a single family homes as well.

The Phipps Mansion in the Bonnie Brae neighborhood is also a gem!

Wonderful well rounded tour. Denver's true gems are pretty much everything but its skyline. Great neighborhoods, wonderful parks, spectacular homes and pretty much anything built from the last decades of the 1800's thru the 1950's and then the city seemed to have lost its way (like many in America) for a few decades only to get back on the right track in the 1990's. Your threads are always enjoyable and educational. Thanks for another awesome thread.

Hi Aztec,

Speaking of alleys, I am in the midst of taking photos of the by-ways and alleyways of our great city. One can always find something lurking there! Perhaps people will see the skanky side of Denver...or...nevermind...... Walked around LoDo tonight. I guess a lot of the conventioneers and the press have started to descend onto the town since the district was PACKED to the gunwhales with partygoers, even more than the usual. Bring 'em on, I say!

Yes, the whole city is jammed with tourist, but great for the economy. I am only having trouble with those that are driving down the wrong way on the the tons of one way streets here. The last time the DNC was here was in 1908, one hundred years ago. The nice thing is that I haven't really noticed any rush to make the city look any better, tons of security practices, but the city always looks great in the summer. I am, however, not looking forward to the motorcades and street closures, but will take the money they spend as a trade off!

Great thread.

Twisted Sol, a half block away. Love it.

They had a great sign up for 4th of July "We are closed for the 4th because we love our country, margaritas, and Jesus. Thank you for understanding."
