Following are some pictures from my trip to Pittsburgh of downtown Pittsburgh, also known as the Golden Triangle.
I did not get to explore and get pictures of the entire downtown. So places like Point State Park are missing from this thread. But there was just so much to do that I got sidetracked.
Anyway just a note about downtown Pittsburgh.
I have to say that downtown Pittsburgh really seems to be doing pretty well. This is one of the busiest American downtowns for a midsized city, and probably the most active in the rust belt area aside from Chicago.
The only spot I can really say needs work is the Fifth and Forbes Retail district. Those two streets are really the only two streets that have vacant buildings and are not as busy as they could be. I think if the retail streets are revived, downtown Pittsburgh will be perfect.
Also I would like to say that downtown is not as quiet as some may think at night time. While not as packed as the South Side, there is some night life going on down there, and we also went to a Art Crawl in the Penn and Liberty Ave areas of downtown. Anyway enjoy the Golden Triangle, and remember this is just a small view as I did not get to walk the entire downtown this time.
The two steel Giants, US Steel Tower and the Aloca Building. Both showcase special uses in steel and aluminium that was new at the time these towers were built.
Fifth Ave. The only area that seems to need a revival.
Back to the other streets.
Dowtown Pittsburgh Cultural District at night, including the One Night Stand Art Crawl.

Excellent! Not sure if anyone has ever captured downtown street shots at night on here - love it!
I hope you have more from your trip!

This is the kind of pittsburgh golden triangle thread I was waiting for. How fucking fantastic. This city definitely has something going for it. This is just what I needed to get me all hyped and jumpy.
I hope this never changes. The weiner world under the two Andy's is so Pittsburghian. You have incredible shots. I love some of the shots you choosen. Great job!
I totally forgot about that art crawl... d'oh... some day I hope to be cool enough to go to Seviche... great shots of downtown's nightlife... especially like the Goodie Truck

Great photos Mike. I'm glad you like Pittsburgh. It certainly has a vibrant street life, similar to Toronto (although a different scale, of course) and increasingly so at night.

Good call on the two Andys mural!
Another interesting point about that photo is Strawberry Way. That is an all pedestrian alley that cuts through downtown. Quite a nice idea. They even have speakers set up in the alley playing soft music.

I did... twice!
Sorry Evergrey - I am sure I loved them as well! My memory isn't what it used to be.

Did you not get hassled for taking photos inside the Steel Plaza station? About three years ago I took a couple of shots there and barely got the lens cap back on when a big, burly PAT cop was towering over me. He took my ID and held it while he radioed someone to run a check on me, and told me that all photography on PAT property was strictly prohibited unless by permit and accompanied by a PAT media relations person. For a while I seriously thought I would be arrested.
I've heard of other people being made to delete their photos. At least that didn't happen to me.
