Siberia from North to East. Part 7 : Khabarovsk

So here is the seventh thread about the trip I did this summer in Siberia.
Here are the links towards the six first threads :
Siberia from North to East. Part 1 : Norilsk
Siberia from North to East. Part 2 : Dudinka
Siberia from North to East. Part 3 : Along the Yenisei

Siberia from North to East. Part 6 : On the train, again

Khabarovsk, with a population of about 600,000, is one of the most important cities in Russian Far East. Despite the fact that Khabarovsk is a quite beautiful and a very dynamic city, it was the low point of my trip.
Indeed, I stayed there for only one night and one day, and it was very hot and in the same time very rainy. I was wet because of the rain and because of my sweat ! Morevover I was a bit ill because of the AC in my hotel room which was too cold.
At last, I was alone in a city where English is virtually unspoken (I didn't even try French) while my Russian skills are very limited as I've already said.
Nevertheless, I took some pics and I think the city definitely deserves a look.

This city looks rather pleasing & comfortable to me.

The building in #52 is interesting. Looks like the St. Louis Arch over the Tower of Pisa is attached to the side.

Interesting, looks like it's right on the tip of the beak of the Chinese chicken . Did the City have a mix of ethnicity or was it primarily Russian? Thanks for the tour.

Fascinating. For a while I've wanted to do a tour of the secondary cities of Russia for no other reason than I know almost nothing about them. Great tour!

Nice pictures. You would think that buildings would look a little different now that you're covering places almost on the Pacific coast, but a lot of buildings look like ones in the other cities that you've shown.

The Russian Orthodox churches are fantastic, and I'm fascinated by some of the Soviet-era monuments and memorials. Many are imposing in scale, and some incorporate Art Deco design to make them feel very dynamic.

These were taken on a dreary day, and I think that contributes a lot to the impression. Still, the people don't look discontented or dejected, any more than the people I see in photos of American and European cities. I think a lot of one's reactions depend on expectations, and those are built on what one is accustomed to.

Which is basically the WWII for the Russians (and other people from former USSR republics)...

yes thanks so much for this series, its an epic journey most will never make.

so overall this city looked pleasant enough, even the commie blocks looked tidy and ok. looks like they have plenty of good public transit, including lots of ferry service. and i have to say that dip in the road at the end surprised me because the place seemed pretty flat up until i saw that.

This city looks quite nice actually, even if the weather was miserable. Knowing very little of Russian cities, I had no expectations and was impressed. Thanks!

This city is great, probably the nicest from your Siberia tour. I like to Russian style classical stone architecture.

This is just one part of the world that's a mystery to me and I'm sure to most people in this planet. Thanks for posting this suite of photos!

Nantais, if you ever plan to travel to southwestern part of Russia and it's neighboring former Soviet satellites such as Kazakhstan ( the real one not Borat's ), please take some photos. Merci.

btw, makes me wonder if they have a Starbucks or McDonald's in that part of the world.
