Great pictures! Every Kingston thread reinforces that the city is a jewel of Canada.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Kingston a military academy town? I was under the impression that it is kind of like Canada's version of Annapolis. Other things like being the national capital for a time reinforce that. The layouts of the cities couldn't be more different, though.

I'm surprised you didn't go with "STONED in Kingston" for a title.

Easily my favorite of Ontario's midsized/little cities.

Nice. I've got some pictures of Kingston, New York that I keep meaning to post, and I'd really love it if someone would show some pictures of Kingston, Jamaica.

If I didnt know any better, Id say that was somewhere in England. That is a mighty impressive town you have there and great to the point pictures. Canada overall sure does have incredibly healthy downtowns when compared to the mess most American towns and cities are in.

As always, a huge amount of interesting detail and contrasts.

Although not the most beautiful building in the thread, I thought this shot was really superbly composed - the similarity of the colours in the two buildings, and the differences of style and scale really make it a kind of history of architecture in one shot.

Yes, that glass & concrete building with the coat of arms looked strangely familiar - I've never seen that combination (austere curtain wall + fancy coat of arms) outside the UK - must be a 1960s Commonwealth thing.

Thanks Flar!

Kingston punches well above its weight for a city its size.

The cool thing about Kingston is that alot of history is there to experience, but its beyond a "museum of colonial period" kind of town. Theres alot of modern and progressive stuff going on.

1000 islands and Prince Edward County next door are a bonus.

It's the post office and was designed in the International style.

Kingston is a nice city with tons of great historic architecture, just wait till you see the neighbourhood tour I have coming up.

Picture 11 is the Royal Military College. Kingston was briefly the capital, an important military base, and one of the major cities in Canada during the 1800s. These days it's famous for Queen's University (one of the most prestigious in Canada), several prisons, and the Tragically Hip.

There's a lot of stone in Eastern Ontario, I should continue the Stoned in... series.

Kingston has a pretty vibrant downtown and a healthy tourist business, but as with many of my tours, I woke up early in the morning to do some shooting. I spent Saturday with my wife checking things out sans camera. She did take a few of these shots though.

That's the coat of arms of Canada.
