Scraps of Dallas and the Metroplex

So, I've finally managed to take enough shots in the last few holiday visits for a Dallas area thread, although half of it is in the burbs and surrounding areas. I hope you guys enjoy this thread of my hometown metro!

Nice work although I know TX in the winter can suck. Just came back and nothing but overcast and dead/hibernating trees.

Cool pics! I went to the Belmont last night and it's such a great view of downtown. Also, whats the deal with those interesting houses? I always see them when riding the DART red line.

Great tour - those modernist homes look really good.

Love this building, too.

Bedhead, the building that you like is Smoke Restaurant, which is located right next to the Belmont Hotel.

This fall and winter thus far, there have been many more sunny than cloudy days here (fortunately). In an El Nino year, though, it can be cloudy, cold, and rainy for weeks on end.

Thanks for the photos.

Those modernist homes are in the "Urban Reserve" on Vanguard.

It's scary that I know where a lot of these photos were taken in my newly adopted second home.

Very nice. These reminded me of how different Dallas is from Austin. Everything has a different look and feel to it.

Thanks! I like the way it seems to be moulded onto the slope.

This is a nice area. What's it called?

Also, are these newish buildings that are designed to look old or old ones.

The area you have just shown is the Highland Park Village Shopping Center. The buildings are very old, since the shopping center was constructed in 1931. It is designated as a National Historic Landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

I always see them too and have always wanted to visit that neighborhood and look around.

Thanks guys, I also saw the Urban Reserve from the train and knew I wanted to check it out. Hopefully, I'll be able to explore some new areas next time I'm in town.
